Jake Nalangan

“is a musician who honors the tradition of jazz and American popular music, yet is always willing to grasp the most challenging modern artistry of the current cutting edge of music” - June Lee (author and transcriber). Originally from Sacramento California, Jake started playing in traditional jazz bands at an early age. He won numerous awards and festival invitations while still in High School. He attended the University of North Texas after receiving a full tuition scholarship. There, he earned the piano chair in the prestigious One O’Clock Lab Band. While living in the Dallas Fort- Worth Area, Jake worked consistently as a sideman and bandleader. In 2024, Jake moved to New York City, where he is pursuing his master’s at the Juilliard School. Jake’s style remains rooted in the traditional jazz style he grew up playing, while incorporating influences like Thelonious Monk and Oscar Peterson and Ahmad Jamal.
